Slathered in several layers of pixelated pulp, The Drifter is an upcoming point-and-click adventure game that cites King, Carpenter, and Crichton as influences, something clear in its synthy score and genre fiction setup. Its demo (which will be available during next month’s Steam Next Fest) begins as Mick, the protagonist, delivers his backstory via hard-boiled monologue: he’s a drifter returning home after a five-year absence to attend his mother’s funeral.

For the last few years, Square Enix has been busy bringing back their earliest RPGs in various forms, from the re-releases of the first six Final Fantasy games to the HD-2D remakes of Live a Live and Dragon Quest III. And now, the group behind those HD-2D reimaginings, Tomoyo Asano’s division at Square Enix (Team Asano), is working on a logical follow-up to their previous work: Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake.

Listen to this article Your browser does not support the audio element. The original Monster Train came out shortly after roguelike deckbuilders started exploding in popularity, as the space pushed past only appealing to Dominion-obsessed oldheads and pulled in many of the card game curious.

When Andor was announced back in 2020 alongside nine other Star Wars TV shows, reactions were relatively muted. It didn’t follow an already beloved figure like Obi-Wan Kenobi or some of the other announced projects, and it wasn’t tackling a new time period or setting, like The Acolyte. Instead, it was going to be a prequel of a prequel following a side character from a spin-off movie.

I put together Paste's Best Anime of 2024 list. The industry continues to be on fire, but that didn't stop talented creatives from making the most of a bad situation with some real showstoppers. Apothecary Diaries, Delicious In Dungeon, DanDaDan, etc.; this year was a good one.

This year's anime lineup was impressive, and we rounded up the best, from #Frieren's thoughtful fantasy to #DanDaDan's supernatural hijinks: https://t.co/Zk9VtsCdok

I reviewed Secret Level, the videogame anthology series from the Love, Death & Robots studio, which didn't land for me. There are a few quality shorts in here, but most are aggressively one-note and come across more like ads for these games rather than imaginative riffs.

While Prime Video's anthology series Secret Level has a few standouts, its strange source material selections and many humdrum one-offs make this videogame adaptation fall flat. https://t.co/gEsK19hjgV

I had a great talk with Briana White, the voice of Aerith, about the Final Fantasy VII remakes, how she brought her performance to life, and what defines her character.

We got a chance to chat with Briana White, the voice actress behind Aerith in the Final Fantasy VII remakes, about bringing the character to life, her award nominations, and more. https://t.co/HTMvmCYaLy
