    Fingers flying across the fretboard of his signature six-stringed bass, jazz fusion musician Stephen Lee Bruner, more commonly known by his stage name, Thundercat, concluded the Summer of Music ‘24 grand finale concert with his hit song “Them Changes” to a roaring audience of thousands.  This free event, presented by Noise Pop and nonprofit organization Civic Joy Fund, brought attendees to Golden Gate Park’s Robin Williams Meadow on Oct. 20 for a celebration of local artists, food and music.

    You’d think a collision was inevitable, watching the never ending loop of skaters boardslide off a cherry red ‘61 Dodge Lancer, but a crash never happened. Skaters seamlessly zipped around each other in a well choreographed dance, dodging flying boards while popping ollies. Even the falls were graceful, with a skater rolling over a shoulder, snagging their board and getting out of the way in the span of time it takes to tie a shoelace.

    A blend of hypnotic drum beats, full-bodied bass and shouts from the crowd in secondhand clothing store, Roommates Vintage, spilled out onto Haight Street, giving the ever-expanding line a preview of the frenzy that would greet them inside. The party, hosted on Aug. 31, celebrated the release of the student run Sutro Magazine, founded by sophomore media studies major May-Ya Nguyen. The online collective, though not officially associated with USF, aims to feature a range of Don’s artistic projects.
