Spanish director Álex Montoya is to adapt Paco Roca’s best-selling graphic novel The Abyss Of Oblivion about the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War.
Montoya and production companies Nakamura Films and Raw Pictures secured the rights to The Abyss Of Oblivion after teaming to make La Casa, a film adaption of another Roca graphic novel.
La Casa played in competition at the Malaga Film Festival in March, winning best screenplay, best music and the audience award.

The 21st edition of the Seville European Film Festival wrapped on Saturday (November 16) giving its top award, the Golden Giraldillo, to the French drama And Their Children After Them, directed by twin brothers Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma. The film’s star Paul Kircher also won the best actor award.

Julie Delpy’s Meet The Barbarians will open the 21st edition of the Seville European Film Festival on November 8. The Spanish festival turns the spotlight on European films during this year’s awards season.
Meet The Barbarians is a satire about the arrival of a group of refugees in a village in Brittany.
The official selection includes 19 titles in competition for its top award: the Golden Giraldillo, named after the statue that crowns Sevilla’s Cathedral, La Giralda.

Filmax has acquired international rights to Spanish comedy From Good To The Hood, starring Quim Gutiérrez and Sara Sálamo.
The film is based on the 2019 French film New Biz In The Hood, starring Gilles Lelouche and directed by Mohamed Hamidi. It tells the story of a successful communications agency located in a luxury area of Madrid forced to move to a downtrodden part of town, where the team must learn to adapt to their new environment and neighbours who don’t do things by the book.

German crime drama Oderbruch has won the Best Fiction Series Award at the South International Series Festival, which wraps today in Cadiz.
Set in Germany’s most sparsely populated region of the same name, Oderbruch is about an investigation into a serial killer and has touches of the fantastic genre. It’s directed by Christian Alvart and Adolfo J. Kolmerer and produced by Syrreal Entertainment, in co-production with ARD Degeto and CBS Studios.

The 2024 edition of the Valladolid International Film Week, also known as SEMINCI, wrapped on Saturday (October 26), giving its top award, the Golden Spike, to Misericordia by Alain Guiraudie.
Misericordia tells the story of a man who returns to his hometown for the funeral of his former boss, the village baker, and decides to stay for a few days with the man’s widow, getting involved in a series of unexpected events.
Guiraudie also won the best screenplay award.
