    STANTON — For the second year in a row, the Montcalm County Board of Commissioners decided to reduce the county’s operating millage for one year to give taxpayers a break. In May 2024, commissioners voted to roll back the county’s operating millage by one full mill (from 4.2954 mills to 3.2954 mills), which equates to a reduction of $2.5 million, meaning the county brought in $8.5 million instead of $11 million in the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Of the potential student candidates interviewed for admission by Command Chief Master Sgt. Mark Brejcha, Central Montcalm High School senior Alexis Curry was his top choice.

    The village of Lakeview will play first-time rookie host to a legendary 3-on-3 basketball tournament next weekend. The Gus Macker Tournament will kick off this year’s season in Lakeview the weekend of May 16-18. The village on Tamarack Lake will host the tourney thanks to the efforts of Ben Perez, the Lakeview High School varsity basketball coach and the president of Lakeview Youth Basketball.
