Between a property owner requesting the return of trailers that don’t belong to him and court communications apparently being incorrectly mailed to the man’s father for years, a long-ongoing blight case continues to grow more complicated. The property at 1320 N. Paris Road near Trufant has been a visible mess since at least 2022.

The Mid-Michigan District Health Department (MMDHD) in Stanton has confirmed a case of measles in a Montcalm County resident who has recently traveled out of the state. The health department is working closely with the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services to determine points of exposure. Anyone who is not immune to measles is at risk. The best protection against measles is the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. MMR vaccine provides long-lasting protection against measles.

A historic institution on Montcalm County’s northeast side is changing hands. The Old Fence Rider Museum at 222 Sheldon St. in Edmore has closed and been donated to the village of Edmore, along with all the museum’s contents.

The former president of the Central Montcalm Public School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has been charged with embezzling from the fundraising group. Jennifer Marie Richmond, 36, of Crystal Township is charged with embezzlement from $1,000 to $20,000 from a non-profit or charitable organization, a felony. The warrant was filed on March 20 and Richmond was arraigned on Tuesday by Montcalm County District Court Judge Adam Eggleston.
