DiscussionIn this population-based cohort study, we demonstrated that the direct healthcare costs and broader economic impacts of patients with non-traumatic shock in the prehospital setting are substantial. These data were produced through the unique linkage of four state-wide datasets (EMS, ED, hospital admissions and death index), allowing for a comprehensive assessment of the financial costs of this syndrome.
