COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina (USC) retired the No. 22 jersey of former Gamecock women’s basketball star A’ja Wilson. University leaders hosted the event in a pregame ceremony just before the noon tip-off against Auburn at Colonial Life Arena on Sunday. Wilson led the Gamecocks to their first NCAA National Championship in 2017. She holds 22 program records, including all-time leading scorer with 2,389 points.

The Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club award the honor to the country’s top defensive player at their annual banquet. Kennard is the to win the award. If South Carolina wins this year's Citrus Bowl, it will become the fifth team in program history to win 10 games.

Wednesday marked Smith’s first parole hearing following her 1995 conviction and sentence of life in prison for murdering her two young sons. On Oct. 25, 1994, 23-year-old Susan Smith murdered her two young boys, 3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alexander, by rolling her car into John D. Long Lake while they were strapped inside.
