This is basically our job now,” Mary told me, “protecting the Republic.”I had just asked her why it was important for her and her partner, Josh, to attend the April 5 “Hands Off” protest at the Washington Monument. Mary carried a sign that said “GOP cowards complicit” on one side and got more explicit on the other. Josh’s sign showed a photo of Russian President Vladimir Putin walking down a snowy street, holding a leash; at the other end was President Donald Trump, on his belly in the snow.
First Phase of The Stacks Complete in Buzzard Point

On April 15, the first phase of development was completed at The Stacks as two apartment buildings were officially opened. The two buildings, called Colette and Everly, offer 1,116 residential units between them, including 40,000 square feet of retail space, 11,000 for co-working and 22,000 in parks square footage. The first residents are expected to have moved in by the end of the month.
CM Parker Meeting on RFK

Ward 5 Councilmember Zachary Parker will host a Community Listening Session about the future of the RFK Stadium Site. The meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Two Rivers PCS (830 26th St NE). Parker has said he is not against a stadium on the site.

In announcing a $3.7 billion deal to build a stadium on the campus at RFK Monday, Mayor Muriel Bowser billed it as a necessary move to keep the District growing in the future. “Our job is to replace economic activity from 40,000 people,” she said, referencing the federal jobs lost in the area. “You can’t leave 180 acres vacant if you need to add jobs, as we do.

City Nears Deal for NFL at RFK

On Wednesday, NBC Washington’s Mark Segraves reported leaked details of a preliminary deal between the NFL Washington Commanders and the District government to build a new NFL stadium on the RFK Campus site. According to Segraves, in information later reported by other outlets, the terms of the deal include $850 million in public funds to prepare the site and infrastructure, including parking structures to serve the whole site.
