Three women writers are set to represent the Yukon in this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, continuing a vision that began in 2016 to bring the voices and stories of the North to an international audience. After years of planning, three Yukon writers will travel to Frankfurt in OctoberThe initiative was originally spearheaded by the late Yukon crime-fiction author, Jessica Simon, who discovered that Canada would be the guest of honour at an upcoming edition of the world’s largest book fair.

According to their website, Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser and through online competitions like America’s Next Top Hitmaker, it offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making an impact. Participants can win $10,000 to kick-start their career and will appear in The Rolling Stone magazine, combined with performing at Rolling Stone’s Future of Music Showcase in Austin, Texas. This year’s winner will also receive mentoring from Busta Rhymes.

Troasyl veranstaltet einmal im Monat ein Begegnungscafé in der Flüchtlingsunterkunft. Außerdem helfen 15 Ehrenamtliche den geflüchteten in vielen Lebenslagen. In den beiden Sammelunterkünften leben derzeit 170 Menschen. Mittwochnachmittag in der Trossinger Flüchtlingsunterkunft im ehemaligen Karl-Hohner-Heim: Kinder spielen vor dem Haus, im Gemeinschaftsraum duftet es nach Kaffee, es wird Kuchen gegessen und an einem Tisch spielt eine Ehrenamtliche mit einem ukrainischen Jungen ein Brettspiel.

Mit über 400 Litern Bier ging’s in zwei Bussen nach Cluses. Für manche Trossinger ein Wiedersehen, für andere das erste Mal, wie für diese Schreiberin. Heil kamen die 100 Trossinger und rund 30 Fässer Bier über die Schweizer Grenze. Gastronom Markus Santo hatte ein Transitbeleg für die Lieferung. Damit sei die Einfuhr einfach, so er. Allerdings: „Man muss ihn dabei haben.“ Hatte er dann auch und musste ihn nicht mal vorzeigen. Schwierig wurde es für die drei Soldaten der Trossinger Patenkompanie.

Die grauen Wolken, die das ganze Wochenende über Cluses hingen, spiegelten nicht die Stimmung wieder, die in Trossingens Partnerstadt herrschte. Festlich, Ausgelassen und emotional wurden 50 Jahre Partnerschaft gefeiert und der Freundschaftsvertrag erneuert. 50 Jahre Städtepartnerschaft, 50 Jahre Austausch zwischen Trossingen und Cluses.

I am suffering from a fading industry. The paper that you are holding in your hands is about to die. I don’t mean this paper. It’s the newspaper industry that is dying. Slowly here and there, you might not notice it. Or you notice it and don`t care. But I do. I am affected by it. That’s why I am writing this article. I am currently an editor and journalist for a local newspaper here in Germany and it’s been four years now for me in these roles.

Pity, that is the first feeling I get while reading Nadine Sander-Greens coming-of-age novel, Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit (recently published by House of Anansi Press). Feelings of pity soon turn into feelings for the protagonist, Millicent. As the atmosphere and landscape of the Yukon shape in the reader’s mind, the protagonist is running into a toxic relationship one would like to prevent her from. The story drew me in from the first page.

Australien und Neuseeland waren nur einige Stationen auf Zara-Clarissa Werths Lebensreise. Derzeit ist die Musikerin, Weltenbummlerin und Schamanin wieder in Trossingen und hat noch so einiges vor. Gemütlich ist es bei Zara-Clarissa Werth in ihrem Trossinger Refugium. Ein Feuer brennt im Ofen, eine große verglaste Terrassentür geht hinaus in den Garten. In einer Ecke steht Zara-Clarissas Gitarre, vor der Wand liegt ihre Yoga-Matte.
