A man has been killed in a workplace accident in Co. Longford. The man in his 60s was working on a closed section of the Athlone Road in Ballymahon when he was hit by a works vehicle after 7 o'clock yesterday evening. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the area was preserved for a technical examination. Both the Health and Safety Authority and the local coroner have been informed of the incident. The Athlone Road entering the town was closed for a time but has since reopened.

A man in his thirties has died after being assaulted at a house in Sallins in County Kildare. A man in his 20's has been arrested at the property and is currently detained. Emergency services responded to a call shortly after 3.15 and found the victim with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead a short time later. The body remains remain at the scene, and the local coroner and State Pathologist have been informed.
Murder investigation underway following fatal traffic incident in Carlow

A murder investigation has begun at Carlow Garda Station following a fatal traffic incident in April. Motorcyclist Tom Connors, from Bunclody Co Wexford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The car involved was found burnt out at the location, and the occupants of the car failed to remain at the scene. Upon investigations, including technical examinations and a post-mortem , Gardaí have launched a murder investigation.
