It might put a smile on the face of the Grinch, but Maritimers are not smiling about the rash of missing parcels this Christmas season. Nova Scotians are taking to social media in frustration over the persistent number of packages stolen or not delivered at all. Paul Boudreau of Halifax says two Christmas gifts were swiped off his porch in just 15 minutes after they were delivered last week.

Charred remains are all that is left of four tents that caught fire early Monday morning at the Green Road encampment in Dartmouth, N.S.Cleanup crews were at the scene Wednesday, clearing away the piles of debris that residents once called home. "Now they have to start right from scratch with whatever people are generous enough to give them," said P.J. McKay, a longtime resident of the Green Road encampment. McKay lives in a camper on the other side of the field from where the fire started.

An accused in the 2022 homicide of 16-year-old Devon Marsman appeared in Halifax court Tuesday, but proceedings will be delayed. Marsman's older cousin, Treyton Marsman, is charged with second-degree murder, indignity to human remains, and obstructing justice. The judge was supposed to set dates for a preliminary inquiry, but scheduling was delayed after new evidence was handed over by police.

Each year, during Trans Awareness Month, a private school in Halifax's north end flies a flag at its doorstep as a show of support. However, teachers and students at the Shambhala School were shocked to find out someone had torn it down a few weeks ago. The incident was particularly upsetting because it was the second year in a row it had happened. "The flag was actually ripped right off of the pole and just left on the ground," said the school's associate director, Noel McLellan.

Halifax-area parents are voicing concerns, saying children have been finding drug paraphernalia and that, in one case, a child was pricked by a discarded needle. A Dartmouth woman is speaking out after she was the victim of a hit and run last Tuesday. Katherine Kennedy was driving along Hammonds Plains Road with her two children in the car, when she felt something slam into the back of her Kia Forte. To Kennedy's surprise, the dump truck in line behind her had suddenly accelerated, rear-ending her vehicle. She said it all happened so fast. "Because we were fully stopped, it jerked our car forward, probably three feet or so," she said.
