IMMOKALEE, Fla. — Across from the Immokalee Airport, the National Guard will build a 45,000 square foot readiness center. It's the same as an armory, a hub for logistics, training and equipment storage. In December 2026, the now empty lot will be a two-story building that can fit up to four units which is around 600 people.

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — The new state law that bans outdoor sleeping, also set aside money for counties to help people find shelter. "We're not ending homelessness for $300,000," Mike Overway said Lee County got that amount from the state. He's the Executive Director of the SWFL Regional Coalition to End Homelessness and with local shelters near or at full capacity, it raises the question, if they can't camp outside, where should people experiencing homelessness go?

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The only water taxi from Cape Coral to Fort Myers beach is back for the first time since Hurricane Ian. The brand new boat can fit 48 passengers from the Westin, and take them to Snug Harbor Marina on Fort Myers Beach. For more than ten years, the hotel and Tarpon Point Marina offered hotel guests and the community a lift to the beach, but when Hurricane Ian destroyed the original boat, they stopped the service.

SANIBEL, Fla. — For the second year, the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation is planting all month for Marsh Madness. The goal is to get the community to come out and plant grass in the marsh preserves on the island that were destroyed in Hurricane Ian which only got worse in Milton and Helene. Between two of their preserves, they've planted 8,000 plants so far this March.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Two nurses say a patient injured them HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte. Nurses rallied Tuesday morning for safer working conditions. Nurses in the National United Nurses Union demanded work place violence prevention plans, hands on de-escalation training and policies to reduce work place violence at HCA Florida Fawcett hospital. Last Tuesday, nurses say a patient kicked a nurse in the back and side.
