The day before Kelly Mack’s vacation, she called the taxi company to schedule a car for the morning. They couldn’t guarantee they’d have a wheelchair-accessible taxi available then, even with a day’s notice, but they could send one now. Mack jumped at the chance and booked into a hotel nearby. In the morning, when everyone else was taking the hotel’s shuttle to the airport, Mack had no choice but to motor in her wheelchair down the highway in the dark to make her flight.

E-scooters in Georgetown have divided public opinion. There are clearly a lot of fans – in fact, Georgetown has the second-highest usage of scooters across Washington, D.C., only behind the National Mall. But parking those scooters, that’s another problem.

Police are looking for a man caught on camera shortly after a reported stabbing. He’s around 50 years old. A hunt for the suspect is underway after a stabbing occurred near the bus stop on the 1700 block of Minnesota Avenue SE at 1.15 pm Monday. The victim, an adult male, was transferred to a local hospital, he was conscious and breathing. He is currently in surgery at a local hospital, Lieutenant Adam Sotelo of the Sixth District told The Wash at the scene.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the Supreme Court Wednesday as justices heard a landmark case on transgender rights. Inside the court, attorneys for transgender minors and the Biden administration argued that Tennessee’s law banning puberty blockers, hormone replacement therapy, and related surgeries for those under 18 unlawfully discriminates based on sex. The case is known as United States v. Skrmetti.

Thirty thousand people died while waiting for their disability evaluations in 2023, Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley told the House Appropriations Committee on Nov. 20. In his final weeks on the job before resigning to start his run for Democratic National Convention chair, O’Malley called upon Congress to restore funding for staffing and increase funding for technology modernization.

Retail thefts have spiked in Georgetown along the M St Corridor; independent businesses are improving their security, but staff of big chain stores appear resigned to the problem. Captain Darren Haskis told the Nov. 4 ANC 2E meeting in Georgetown that although all other crimes are down in the year-to-date and 30-day time-period statistics, thefts are on the rise. There were 56 thefts in October, largely from businesses on M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, such as CVS, Lululemon, and Alo.

Boarded windows and cement barricades dot the downtown streets of Washington, D.C. As the city braces for Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration, businesses say they fear retaliatory violence in the wake of the contentious election. The results are in sooner than expected, but the uncertainty for businesses in downtown D.C. continues as they tell The Wash they will remain barricaded until after the inauguration. Initiative 83 has passed in D.C. with almost 73% of the vote meaning semi-open primaries and ranked voting are set to begin in 2026. Before then, the ballot initiative will face more challenges with two lawsuits and the final decision to fund the decision made by D.C. Council. When Swifties for Kamala began as an online movement the day Biden announced he was stepping down from the race they hoped to raise 13,000 dollars for the campaign. Today they’ve raised $235,000, and they’re “running out of Taylor-related numbers, that’s crazy,” said Irene Kim, co-founder of the group. The group is not affiliated with Taylor Swift, who has been widely reported on throughout the campaign.
