The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has suspended the daily issuance of heat index reports following the declaration of the onset of the rainy season. In an advisory released on Tuesday, June 3, PAGASA announced that the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place until March 1, 2026, when the hot and dry season typically begins in many parts of the country.

Despite the onset of the rainy season, dangerously high heat index levels may still affect 36 areas across the country on Tuesday, June 3. Based on the latest forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Guiuan, Eastern Samar may record the highest heat index at 47°C. Five areas, Aparri, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Echague, Isabela; Virac, Catanduanes; and Masbate City, Masbate, follow at 45°C.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, June 3 urged the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods and landslides caused by the southwest monsoon and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Over the next 24 hours, the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga.

Kanlaon Volcano emitted a grayish ash plume that rose about 1.2 kilometers above its summit crater on Monday, June 2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. The ash emission, recorded between 1:38 p.m. and 2:07 p.m., produced plumes that drifted westward. Phivolcs maintained Alert Level 3 over Kanlaon Volcano due to continuous increased volcanic unrest with possible hazardous eruptions.
