Over the last few months, broadcasters across the U.S. have learned about a series of rolling software updates that are causing NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) stations to experience periods of downtime. While these updates were scheduled in advance, the disruption in service has caused some broadcasters to question whether adequate failsafes are in place should severe weather arise while NWR is down in any given area.

Power couple Andy Gladding and Kathleen Berghorn have undertaken a new radio venture: station ownership. After a serendipitous turn of events last May, the duo recently completed the purchase of WKZE(FM) in Red Hook, N.Y.It all started when Gladding — a radio engineer who is no stranger to Radio World readers — was pursuing his doctorate in education at Hofstra University, where he also serves as the chief engineer for the university’s student-run radio station WRHU(FM).

The Federal Communications Commission has revoked two station licenses in Southeast Texas after the licensee failed to pay station regulatory fees for seven years. Kremling Enterprises used to own station licenses for KYKM(FM) in Yoakum, Texas, and KTXM(FM) in Hallettsville. On May 30, the FCC said Kremling was stripped of said licenses after failing to pay off its 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024 regulatory fee debt owed to the commission, totaling $14,223 as of April 2025.
