The Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is closing early on May 16 due to the threat of severe weather. The festival gates will close at 7 p.m. instead of midnight. Ticket sales were suspended before 5 p.m. and festival gates will close at 7 p.m., Memphis in May announced in a news release and on social media. Gates at Liberty Park were originally scheduled to close at midnight. Team awards scheduled for May 16 have been rescheduled for 6 p.m. May 17.
