Nightjar. Photo Forestry Engand (mda )VISITORS to Haldon Forest are being encouraged to help protect ground-nesting bird including the mysterious nightjar. The nightjar is a carnivorous nocturnal bird and Haldon Forest and the surrounding area is home to one per cent of the UK’s breeding population. Rangers from Forestry England is appealing to visitors to join a free guided walk to find out more about the birds.

For one day, there will be six slots available to patients for what is being described as a ‘dental stabilisation programme’. Nuvo Dental in Queen Street has launched the scheme to help patients in pain and in need of treatment.

The play park on King George V was reopened earlier this year after a £100,000 makeover and is proving popular with youngsters. Now the living willow wigwam and new pollinator-attracting trees and plants have been funded by gas company Wales & West Utilities.

Martin Graham, 82, is largely housebound due to his health conditions but one of his long-held dreams was to see the famous Dawlish waterfowl. Staff at Croft Lodge Care Home in Teignmouth where Martin has lived for the last three years managed to fulfil his dream with a day out to see the swans.

Author Phil Craig will be giving a talk on his latest book 1945 The Reckoning which features the story of Dr Douglas Peterkin, who worked as a doctor in Dawlish after the war.
