Spring is opening flowers and leaf buds, pulling grass out of its hat, and for many, it’s time to open plant books and put Latin names and floral lore to use. Jacqueline Hudson at San Miguel Basin Colorado State University (CSU) Extension office (in the Glockson building in Norwood) is ready to help with advice, information and a package of classes for those curious or learned about native plants and their uses. Since 2007, the extension office has offered native plant classes.

In a historic meeting on April 2, with help from a grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board, leaders of Wright’s Mesa water stakeholder groups met to discuss priorities and begin work with an engineering consultant firm to plan for the future of water in the region. “There is light,” said co-founder of Wright’s Mesa Water Commission (WMWC) and Norwood Mayor Candy Meehan.

In the past two months, Telluride High School National Honor Society students have donated $1,500 to local organizations and are working to donate time and energy to others in an effort to continue making Telluride a supportive community and give back to the givers. “This is not just about us having good grades,” said Caleb Slosberg, treasurer for Telluride High School National Honor Society (THS NHS).

Four student athletes from Norwood Public Schools earned recognition by the San Juan Basin League for outstanding athletic achievement and were lauded at the March 20 Norwood Board of Education meeting. For boys’ and girls’ basketball season, Kendra McCluer and Brycen Rummel were named First Team All-Conference in the league. Darcy Bray and Holton McCluer earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Kendra McCluer was also recognized as Player of the Year for the San Juan Basin League.

Plans are made to be changed, and Jeffrey and Jaime Perce, owners of Dark Sky Pie on Grand Avenue in Norwood, are making an imperative change to their restaurant. They will serve their last pizza pies on Saturday, March 29, then close until summer, when they’ll reopen as Dark Sky Café.
