Commercial beekeepers, with more than 500 hives, have lost 62% of their bees, and hobby beekeepers, fewer than 50 hives, have lost around 50%, according to a recent survey by Project Apis m., an organization that supports scientific research about bees.

Klein, who has been the district's chief academic officer since July, will become the superintendent on July 1.
