Dear Lisi: I went on a date last night for the first time in six months. We found each other on a dating app and started chatting. We’re similar in age (early 50s), both divorced for more than three years, both with teenage children. Her photos showed an active, attractive woman who looked natural and wholesome. We met at a restaurant, and I was surprised. She was wearing a very sexy, revealing dress and had clearly just had some work done on her face.

I remember lying in bed as a child, listening to the radio and hearing the moving song, “Thanks for the Memories,” sung by the late comedian Bob Hope. Today, I’m feeling much deeper nostalgia for the remarkable 40 years of my lifetime career working for the Toronto Star. Now, I’m retiring. It’s been fulsome and fantastic years of engaging with Toronto Star readers. It became a mutual relationship when I wrote my advice column for the last 23 of those years.

It’s no wonder we Canadians are sometimes considered strange. One minute we’re too hot, the next too cold and the worst feeling of all … it’s become TOO DARN HUMID!Once we were described as “hardy and outdoorsy,” especially if we are/were capable of partaking in outdoor activities, such as cross-country skiing in mid-winter when snowfalls could be very heavy.
