Making great thrash in the present day seems to require bands to nail two somewhat competing principles. One: have a healthy respect for the classic ‘if ain’t broke don’t fix it’ approach, i.e. acknowledge that the first four METALLICA albums plus the 80s output of SLAYER, KREATOR and a few others are all essentially perfect and the goalposts haven’t needed much moving since. But two: find a way to honour that while still making something that feels fresh and urgent and dangerous.

London/Kent-based emo outfit Wears Me Out released their wonderfully wistful debut demo in April of last year and they’ve since hit 2025 running with a fantastic self-titled track and shows lined up with the likes of Had Sandy, incaseyouleave, Looseleaf, and The Overjoyed in the weeks to come. Catching up with a couple of them over email, it’s clear that the four-piece of Alf (vocals), Matt (guitar), Anja (bass) and Scott (drums) are still just getting started.
