What was the first gig you ever went to? The D4 (who were a rock band from New Zealand) in the basement of HMV Oxford Street. They once told the NME they play at 80% because if they played at 100% there was a good chance they would combust and die. Hilarious. It was 2002, in the midst of another rebirth of rock n roll. The drummer took his shirt off and counted in the first song. Unforgivable behaviour now but it blew my barely teenage mind. Were there a good supply of venues in your hometown?
