Interstate 110 near the Governor's Mansion curve in Baton Rouge will close in both directions Friday night at 7 p.m. so that a derailed train on the railroad bridge above the interstate can be removed, the state Department of Transportation and Development said. The interstate will be closed between Capitol Access Road and N. 22nd Street.

BREC officials today announced an interim superintendent to head Baton Rouge's parks and recreation system. Janet Simmons, the recent president of the Baton Rouge nonprofit Hope Ministries, will begin her new role with BREC on June 1. Corey Wilson, the current superintendent, announced in March that he would not renew his employment contract, which expires in January 2026. His last day with BREC is Saturday.

The Port Allen Police Department will begin enforcing a "zero-tolerance" policy regarding a standing curfew for juveniles on Thursday, the department said in an online post. Under current law, all juveniles under the age of 17 must be off public streets and in their homes between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. On Friday through Sunday, the curfew hours are between midnight and 6 a.m., police said.

Interstate 10 east in Baton Rouge is closed past Siegen Lane due to an accident, the state Department of Transportation said shortly before 11:30 Thursday. Congestion at that time was approaching Bluebonnet Boulevard. "Motorists are advised to use an alternate route," DOTD said in an online post. Multiple agencies are responding to the scene, the St. George Fire Department said online. This is a developing story.

LSU students will be using new technology to get into Tiger sporting events this fall as the university works to to eliminate fraud, the athletics department said this week. The change means that students will no longer be able to use screenshots of tickets on their phones to get into games.
