A British tourist was among three people killed in a national park in Uganda on Tuesday, in a suspected attack by a group linked to Islamic State. A South African tourist and a Ugandan guide were also killed. The trio were driving through the Queen Elizabeth National Park when they came under attack from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group, police spokesman Fred Enanga said. “The three were killed, and their safari vehicle burnt,” Mr Enanga said in a post on Twitter.

Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter has said her company received £800,000 from three books the veteran wrote, amid accusations that the family had kept money intended to be donated to charity. Hannah Ingram-Moore told Piers Morgan on his TalkTV show Uncensored on Wednesday night that her father wanted her to keep the profits, and that there was no suggestion that people buying the books thought they were donating to charity.

Mercy killings may not always be prosecuted, updated guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has suggested. Cases where the victim had a clear, informed desire to end their life, or where the suspect acted because of significant emotional pressure, might deter prosecution. The CPS has updated its homicide guidance, specifically addressing mercy killings and failed suicide pacts, after a consultation to increase transparency on “how prosecutors think and decide”.

Just Stop Oil protesters have disrupted a performance of Les Miserables at the Sondheim Theatre in London’s West End. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the group wrote: “4 people are locked to the stage of the French-revolution-themed show. “Valjean steals bread to feed a starving child. How long before we are all forced to steal?” In video of the incident, audience members can be heard booing the demonstrators.

Fayed never got over his son’s death in the 1997 Paris car crash. In the decade after the incident, he repeatedly claimed that Dodi had been murdered in a plot by the British establishment. But he was forced to reluctantly concede defeat after a six-month inquest in 2007 and 2008. The jury returned unlawful killing verdicts on both the Princess and Dodi, but pinned the blame on the drink-driving of chauffeur Henri Paul, who also died in the crash.
