    The music of “Buena Vista Social Club” begins immediately at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, setting the mood for the next two hours. The incredibly talented band, onstage most of the time, seemed as delighted playing for us as we were to be listening to them and marveling at their virtuosity.     Years ago I read a book about how memory works. It involved creating a mind palace. Ironically I can’t recall the name of the book so I had to look it up. ( Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything by Joshua Foer)  Obviously the technique didn’t work for me but mentalist/performer Vinny  DePonto has put it to good use in his new show Mindplay at the Greenwich House Theater.

    It’s only November, and Broadway has posted its first closing notice. “Tammy Faye,” the new $25 million Elton John musical about Tammy Faye Bakker, will close on December 8, at which point it will have had 24 previews and 29 regular performances.
