Harry Nilsson was a musical genius in more than one sense. Not only was he an accomplished songwriter, but he also pioneered experiments with vocal overdubs and cultural fusions. He was a legend, and many referred to him as the “American Beatle”. Even The Beatles themselves said that Nilsson was their favorite American musician back in 1968. Sadly, like many talented greats of his era, Nilsson had a difficult upbringing and struggled throughout his life.

The classic rock era of the 1960s and 1970s seemed like an incredible time for fans of rock music. I personally wasn’t alive back then, and I’m a bit bummed out about the fact that I’ll never know what it was really like to see legendary, culture-changing performances from that era in person. At least those of us who were born too late can enjoy the myth and lore that surround those famous tours.

Alright, that’s a bold statement. I fully recognize that. These four underrated Bob Dylan covers might not be better than the originals to every listener. That’s the beauty of music; some love certain songs, and others don’t resonate with them. For me, though, the following four covers improve on already perfect songs by the Bard and deserve some praise. Let’s dive in, shall we?

That being said, many songwriters through the years have boasted an incredible ability to make their lyrics sound like pure poetry.
