They have already housed more than 9,000 residents across its existing markets, and are committed to bringing that success to Austin. "Our belief is that no units should sit vacant while there are folks in need of housing," said Shayna Dunitz, Austin Managing Director for Housing Connector. Texas lawmakers are working on a measure that would make it harder for minors to get their hands on alcohol. Charlotte Stephens lost her 18 year old son Deshawn Jagwan in a car accident after he purchased alcohol from a convenience store on the night of prom. "Despite being underage he was able to walk out, he made several trips. First time he got away with it he bought one, the second time, and each time the clerk failed to say a word," said Stephens.

A sea of blue overtook the Texas state capitol on Thursday, as Texas CASA volunteers and advocates spent the day advocating on behalf of kids in the foster care system. CASA Day allows volunteers to impress upon lawmakers how important the bills they pass impact the foster care system. A CASA is a court appointed special advocate who works with kids in the foster care system who have experienced abuse or neglect.

The Pecan Street Festival, one of Austin's longest running art festivals, is relocating to the Hill Street Galleria in Bee Cave for its 50th anniversary. Usually held bi-annually, hundreds of vendors and thousands of visitors crowd 6th street for this festival. It introduces the community to local and national artisans in the heart of downtown Austin. However, organizers have decided to move the Spring 2025 festival.

The Texas House and Senate Education Committees are working to find a balance when it comes to enhancing the rights of educators and parents. House Bill 7 introduced by Representative Jeff Leach aims to give parents more rights when it comes to their children's education. "In a very real way it elevates the role of parents to be involved in their children's education, providing them more information, giving them at certain stages of the grievance process to have more answers," said Leach.
