Though it has not yet been announced, the 2026 Nissan Leaf is in the works, Nissan confirms to PCMag, but whether it will get its rumored redesign remains to be seen. Nissan updated the Leaf for the 2025 and 2024 model years, but gave it only minor tweaks. It's the most affordable EV in the US, starting at $28,140, but suffers from a boring design and outdated tech, such as a CHADeMO charge port and low battery range.

Elon Musk changed his X bio to "White House Tech Support" overnight, seemingly making light of an unfolding situation in which he has access to vital federal systems and the workforce that supports them despite heading up a "department" that isn't an official US agency. Musk's official title is "special government employee" (SGE) within the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. General Motors (GM) has completed its acquisition of Cruise and will use its technology to boost GM's Super Cruise autonomous driving technology. The move marks a new chapter for Cruise. In December, GM announced that it would no longer fund Cruise as a separate entity. That effectively killed Cruise's robotaxi business, which was competing with Waymo until several high-profile incidents in San Francisco forced it to take a lengthy break and, later, put safety drivers back behind the wheel.
