With 2024 behind us, the Animal Agriculture Alliance is looking ahead at trends to be prepared for in the new year from the animal rights movement. These groups, which bring in more than $800 million in income annually, have a large budget to put towards their mission of eliminating animal agriculture. While each group shares the same overarching goal, their methods to achieve that goal vary.

Animal rights groups are hitting legislative campaigns hard in 2024. Earlier this year, I wrote about some of the trends we were seeing in state legislatures that were backed by these groups and about their increased use of ballot initiatives. This tactic is continuing as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) primed its supporters with recommendations to further its reach in lobbying efforts at its annual Taking Action for Animals (TAFA) Conference earlier this summer.

Meat is on the menu . . . but for how long? Vegan and animal rights crusaders are ramping up efforts to increase “plant-based” offerings on the menu at K-12 schools, colleges, and universities. The University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and most recently, Western Oregon University are just a few of the schools who have allegedly made “plant-based” menu commitments.
