The Chincoteague Pony Swim is an annual tradition that dates back to the 1800s. The Saltwater Cowboys round up the wild island horses. They're herded across the Assateague Channel where they swim to Chincoteague Island. From there, they will be put into corrals and some will be auctioned off. The remaining ponies swim back. The event is hosted by the Chincoteague Fire Department. This year is the 100th annual pony swim. It's expected to have a huge turnout.

Barrel racing isn't for the weak! It's a timed event where horse and rider race around barrels in a cloverleaf pattern. The horses are fast and turn on a dime! The riders are fearless and full of spit and vinegar. You don't want to stand in the way of a barrel racing duo. At rodeos, this event can get very competitive. Cowgirls saddle up and put on a thrilling performance. Most runs are over in just 17 seconds! The cool thing about barrel racing is how inviting the sport is.
