UC honorary fraternity Sigma Sigma has awarded the title to one graduating man each year who balances academic achievement with student leadership, contributions to UC and the embodiment of “Bearcat Spirit” since 1949. Phelps graduated on May 2 with degrees in business economics and finance after earning the Mr. Bearcat title in April.

But University of Cincinnati economics professor David Brasington found surprising results when he split the data between low-income and high-income communities: large, completely opposite moves in housing prices.

He said tariffs can leave small business owners feeling lost on how to navigate and manage their inventory. “They’re in a situation where this tariff regime — which again has these two components of higher costs and/or unknown tariff rates — they’re kind of stuck not knowing what is the best path forward,” Painter said.

Associate professor David Niven, PhD, is a member of the 2025 Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program. He is one of 26 scholars and researchers selected in an application pool of over 300. With a $200,000 grant from the Carnegie Foundation, his research will analyze how American citizens’ experience at the polls impacts their views on voting. University of Cincinnati political scientist David Niven has spent a large part of his career examining how we vote. Now, a $200,000 Andrew Carnegie Corporation of New York fellowship award will help Niven dive deeper into the American polling system and how polling environments impact voters. The 2025 Class of Andrew Carnegie Fellows includes Niven and 25 other recipients and represents a total of $18 million in research grants. Niven was one of over 300 nominees for this year’s class.
