1. IntroductionNumerical weather prediction (NWP) is one of the most impactful physical sciences, and its improvement over the last few decades is mostly related to the increase in resolution of the atmospheric models [1]. Resolution gains are still ongoing because of their valuable ability to represent high-impact events, such as heavy convective precipitation [2], flow-induced pollution over complex terrain [3], and urban heat islands [4].
