SAN DIEGO — San Diego Lifeguards rescued a 30-year-old man Sunday afternoon who fell about 30 feet off of a cliff near the Torrey Pines Gliderport. The man sustained shoulder and arm injuries, which were not life threatening, said Lt. Jacob Magness. Lifeguards used cliff gear and ropes to help the man get down to the beach.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Monday that paves the way for cities to open Amsterdam-style cannabis cafes. The law takes effect Jan. 1. Cafes could open early 2025, with approval from local governments.

Two men, 18 and 23, were killed Saturday night near 1700 Newton Avenue.
San Diego Police said roughly 10 gunshots were heard by witnesses. It is unclear what may have lead to the shooting.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Chula Vista Police arrested a 12-year-old student in connection with threatening messages, including one that claimed the sender would commit a school shooting. The messages led to fear on multiple Chula Vista school campuses and prompted many students to leave school on Tuesday, police said.
