A drink-driver who led police on a high-speed chase through North and East Yorkshire has been jailed. Anthony Proctor, of West Lutton near Sledmere, was driving a white Vauxhall Astra van on 17 February, when police suspected he had been drinking. The 44-year-old was first spotted speeding off from Norton, before he headed towards Driffield and sped through 30mph zones at 80mph. He was stopped and a breath test in custody found him to be two-and-a-half times the legal limit.

Two men have been charged with firearms offences after a gun was reportedly fired in Rotherham. South Yorkshire Police were called to an address on Highfield Park, Maltby, just after 22:45 BST on Sunday, to reports of a person making threats with a firearm. An hour later armed officers were called to a second firearms discharge on nearby Hayhurst Crescent, with no injuries reported.

Three far-right extremists who amassed hundreds of weapons and planned to carry out attacks on targets including a mosque have been convicted of terrorism offences. Brogan Stewart, 25, from West Yorkshire, Christopher Ringrose, 34, from Staffordshire, and Marco Pitzettu, 25, from Derbyshire, were part of an online group who "idolised the Nazi regime". Sheffield Crown Court was told how Stewart had detailed torturing a Muslim leader using an "information extraction kit".

A blaze in a derelict building at a pig farm in North Yorkshire is thought to have been started deliberately, the fire service has said. Fire crews from Selby and Acomb were called to the site on Magazine Road in Barlby at about 20:20 BST on Monday. The blaze covered an area of about 33ft by 10ft (10m x 3m) and had spread to the building's roof, according to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

While Cheryl Alexander teaches her students about atoms and elements, a special helper is on hand in her science lab. The York High School chemistry teacher is joined by her assistance dog Tyrian, who has been her canine partner for the past eight years. As a wheelchair user with physical and sensory disabilities, Ms Alexander says she often needs Tyrian's help with doing manual activities. "He is my hands, he's almost an extension of myself," she explains.
