A two-year-old girl was left in agony for 10 days, vomiting dark green liquid, and had to undergo surgery after swallowing a toy. Mum Jade Lee Berriman had no idea that Meliyah-Jayd had swallowed something, and feared she was going to die. When doctors had X-rays done 12 days after the problem started they found 4mm magnetic balls had pierced through the little girl's bowel in four places. Meliyah-Jayd was rushed into surgery and had a large part of her bowel removed.

A dog was beaten so badly by his owner for peeing indoors that staff thought he was already dead when he arrived at the vets. Terry, a whippet, was left with life-threatening injuries when he was beaten. He was rushed to Hull PDSA Animal Hospital by a member of the public. Staff initially thought the pet, wrapped in a blanket, had already died as he was in a collapsed state and unresponsive. However, they then spotted shallow breathing and rushed into action to help save his life.
