    Auction activity across Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide remained robust last week, with buyers continuing to compete for a limited supply of homes despite the distraction of a federal election campaign.     Sydney and Melbourne both posted solid auction results last week, with preliminary clearance rates rising as confidence returned to the market following the Anzac and Easter disruptions. In Sydney, 577 homes went under the hammer, with a preliminary clearance rate of 69.4 per cent , the city's highest preliminary result in seven weeks, although still just shy of the 70 per cent mark. The action was buoyed by land scarcity and a mix of downsizers, builders and interstate investors.
