When Edward Lane’s mother found a lump in her breast, he was surprised to find how hard he had to fight to get her seen swiftly - Jeff GilbertIt would only take a simple phone call, Edward Lane assumed. His elderly deaf mother had found a lump in her breast and needed to see a doctor. Understandably anxious, she asked her son to make the appointment as she was unable to make phone calls and struggled with the online booking form. It turned out there was nothing simple about the process at all.

The key issue for her is the "whole list of questions" that need to be answered on the form. "Have you got this? Have you got that? Have you got the other - if so, a GP appointment isn't appropriate," she says. "They're just pushing people onto 111 or the A&E service."She sounds angry but she of all people has sympathy for the receptionists - she was one herself for a decade, from 1997. She rarely faced abuse because she could chat to patients and offer on-the-day or next day appointments.

When Mia Forbes Pirie and her husband Mark Simpson found their Jaguar E-Pace had been stolen from outside their house in west London, they used the AirTag it was fitted with to discover it was now parked less than three miles away. Keen to act as quickly as possible, they contacted the police - who gave no indication as to whether they could help or not. In the end, the couple was forced to retrieve the stolen car themselves.

Eye-opening commission from @dailytelegraph - are #GenZ increasingly aiming to marry for money? Not just high salaries but family money; inheritance Jane Austen-style. Some admirably honest interviewees, interesting fallout from high cost of living. https://t.co/sm5KMHHOi9

A long, moving, funny, sad, sparkly day. Some final words from me for #LindaNolan for her favourite @DailyMirror https://t.co/nFrJ7brxaI

Today is the day we say goodbye to our beautiful Linda Nolan, for the very last time 💔 Please join us, as we say our final farewell. The church service is held at St Paul’s Church, Blackpool with arrivals beginning from 9:30am The Crematorium is Carleton Crematorium at noon 🩷 https://t.co/PCevyn6GXW

High funeral costs drove these families to #crowdfund - more are doing this than ever. One widower with two little girls spoke of the shame he felt, but it was only generosity on @gofundme which allowed him to give his wife the burial she had asked for. https://t.co/O2NWAqCino
