Continued from part 2Ruiz noted that the type of skin cancer is the major factor in her decision to pursue nonsurgical treatment, and she has found that Mohs surgery is usually the easiest treatment for patients with BCC. However, the multidisciplinary team, the patient, and the patient’s family should all be involved in the decision-making process.

Continued from part 1Although there is no standard definition for advanced BCC, Arron defines it informally as BCC that is not amenable to curative surgical resection or radiation therapy, or for which these treatments would cause substantial morbidity and decreased quality of life. However, determination of resectability is heavily reliant on the surgeon and the patient’s ability to access different surgical options, she added. This presents an opportunity for multidisciplinary care.
