    Winter may not officially begin until late December, but to me it feels like Halloween marks a stark change in season. The warmth of September and the slight chill of October all lead up to the promise of Halloween, and the second it passes the weather seems to shift immediately into a constant cold, dry chill. Now that daylight savings time has rolled around and the weather is rapidly getting colder and colder, it can be hard to find warmth and sunlight most days.

    As a certified overthinker, I have learned a lot over the years. More specifically, I have learned a lot about how to manage and control my thinking, as well as using these tendencies to my advantage rather than letting them harm me. At a glance, my tendency to overthink has inherently offered me some benefits and some pitfalls. It allows me to make safe decisions and look out for my friends. It also causes me to always be aware of my surroundings, and I am therefore rarely caught off guard.

    Like many young girls, Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women has been a staple story in my life from a very young age. When I was about nine years old, my mom bought me an abridged copy of the book and it was my first exposure to the story. I’ve since grown into the full version of the book, which was also gifted to me by my mom as it was her old copy. When the 2019 movie finally came out, my mom and I made sure we were front row in the theater.

    As a natural born introvert who has always cherished quiet time by myself, a strange phenomenon occurred when I first arrived at college. All of a sudden, I wanted to be around people constantly, and no longer knew how to spend any time alone. However, I had no idea what brought about this change. This had never happened to me before, and it was a lot to figure out how to deal with it. I had to teach myself how to be more extroverted in order to fulfill these new, unforeseen needs.

    The Paralympic Games, now a major global event, has a history rooted in rehabilitation. The first official Paralympic Games was held in Rome in 1960. But its origins trace back to 1948, when neurologist Ludwig Guttmann organised the Stoke Mandeville Games in England for World War II veterans with spinal cord injuries. He believed sport could play a powerful role in rehabilitation, pushing the boundaries of human performance in ways other approaches could not.
