Sophomore year, Feb. 24, 2023, 3:37 a.m., I laid in my bed in Berkus Hall and wrote in my journal:“I love lacrosse…I still feel scared to play in games but I know I’m getting better & I’m having fun.”Looking back now as a senior about to graduate, nothing has changed — and yet, everything has. Still, no experience challenged me, helped me grow or brought me as much fun as lacrosse has in these past four years. When I first stepped onto Patterson Field in 2021, I was excited.

Right before Rosalind Wiseman ’91 was about to go home for Thanksgiving her first year of college, a group of her friends pulled her aside in her first-year dorm. In Pauley Hall, Wiseman said her friends shared that they had worked really hard to make her a nicer person — they were afraid that she would go back home to Washington,D.C. and go backwards.

Eagle Rock -- When Alan Janoyan arrived at the Altadena location of Unincorporated Coffee Roasters on Jan. 7, conditions were already fierce. “Our furniture was flying away,” said Janoyan, who co-founded the business with Arthur Sohrabian in 2013. “The wind had already blown the walls of our shopping center down into our neighbors’ yards.”The devastation from the Eaton Fire, which erupted that evening, is unprecedented; 17 people died just in Altadena, and more than 9,400 structures were destroyed.
