The event, hosted by the Florence Trust and The Writers’ Room, featured Wilde alongside artist and curator Hang Zhang. In the early hours of the evening, The Writers’ Room welcomed visitors into Danielle’s Open Studio where they could see her collection of teen magazines from the 1990s.

The room shakes with hoots and hollers from the audience as the Appalachian drag queen — born and raised in rural Kentucky — seems to glimmer on stage in her electric blue wig. St. Jane lives in Louisville now, but she was born and raised in Clay County — a small Eastern Kentucky county with a population of just over 20,000.

    Right after the election, Pastor Joel Webbon, president of the Right Response Ministries, said that half of his vote was stolen from him by the 19th Amendment—that would be the 1920 amendment that enshrined women’s right to vote. As Webbon noted in his podcast, he does “allow” his wife to vote so that half of his “stolen” vote can be returned to him.
