Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros and Team Finland saw their time at the IIHF Men's World Championship come to a close Thursday when they lost to Brady Skjei, Michael McCarron and Team USA by a 5-2 final at Avicii Arena in Stockholm. Saros made 23 saves in the loss to Team USA. He finishes the tournament with an 0.943 save percentage and a 1.67 goals against average.

Charges have officially been filed in last month's horrifying incident that saw Pittsburgh Pirates fan Kavan Markwood fall 21 feet onto the warning track during a game at PNC Park, court records show. Jennifer Borrasso of KDKA TV News reported Tuesday that the Pennsylvania State Police Liquor Control Enforcement has filed two charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor against Ethan Kirkwood, Markwood's friend who was with him at PNC Park the night of the incident.

A former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher saw his tenure with his current team come to an untimely end over the weekend, as right-handed pitcher Chris Stratton was designated for assignment by the Kansas City Royals. Stratton, who was in the second season of a two-year, $8 million free agent contract he signed with the Royals after winning a World Series with the Texas Rangers in 2023, had posted a 7.94 ERA over 17 innings and 12 appearances in 2025.

After playing for one season in his native Russia, former Nashville Predators draft pick Egor Afanasyev may be back stateside in 2025-26. The 24-year-old, whose deal with CSKA Moscow of the KHL was mutually terminated after the 2024-25 season, is now eligible to return to North America and sign with the San Jose Sharks. The Predators traded Afanasyev to San Jose last offseason when he became a restricted free agent, so his rights are still owned by the Sharks.
