A Cook County jury returned a $24.1 million verdict Thursday to the family of two children who allegedly developed lead poisoning while living in public housing owned by the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA).It is the highest verdict in the state for lead poisoning, according to the Jury Verdict Reporter.Shanna Jordan and her daughter Morgan Collins sued the CHA, East Lake Management Group Inc.

Business law firm Buchalter has opened a new office in Chicago, staffed with 15 attorneys previously employed by Robbins DiMonte Ltd., the firm announced Wednesday.“As the third-largest city in the country, having a Chicago office has been a long-term goal for the firm,” Buchalter President and CEO Adam Bass said in the firm’s news release.

The city of Chicago approved two separate settlements totaling $25 million on Wednesday in federal suits over alleged police corruption.One of the suits, settled for $17.5 million, involved a man who spent more than 20 years in prison after allegedly being framed for a gang-related murder by disgraced former Chicago Police Detective Reynaldo Guevara.The other suit involved a married couple who was allegedly framed for drug crimes.

An insurance company must face a claim that it improperly denied coverage to the operators of Vi Senior Living for alleged losses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, a state appellate panel ruled.A panel of the 1st District Appellate Court ruled that Landmark American Insurance Co.’s exclusions for damages caused by pathogenic materials was too broad and therefore rendered illusory.
