Two years into its strategic plan, The United Church of Canada may not have achieved its goal of creating 100 new communities of faith, but it can boast at least 25 “church plants” across the country. A number of United Church–connected communities have started up in the last few years, thanks to the efforts of motivated community members and with support from the national church.

Ramiro Gonzales was executed in Texas on June 26, 2024 for the kidnapping, rape and murder of Bridget Townsend. This followed a stay of execution in 2022. “Ramiro spent more than half of his life with the threat of execution looming over him, and it was absolutely his faith in God that got him through that,” says Rev. Bri-anne Swan, his friend and spiritual advisor, who was by his side when he was executed.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said he’s a Christian. So in a desperate plea Tuesday, one Episcopal bishop appealed to his faith. Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, spoke directly to Trump, who sat in the front row during the inaugural prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral, calling on him to consider the impact of his policies and campaign promises on 2SLGBTQ+ people and migrants.
