Sian has long fancied herself as my sartorial curator, and I am familiar with her close scrutiny of my outfit when we go out as a couple. But now she's bringing this scrutiny to bear on everything I own. And apparently intends to throw out a good deal of it. My wife has worked in fashion for most of her adult life; as a professional buyer, she has an enduring compulsion to purchase clothes and shoes that are often (in my view, at least) identical to those she already owns.

I felt a flicker of relief recently. After what has felt like a long time, the adults have started standing up to the stranglehold of the smartphone and the negative effect it’s having on young children. In Hertfordshire, where I live, hundreds of parents have signed the Parent Pact, part of the Smartphone Free Childhood campaign, promising not to buy their children a smartphone until they are 14.

I don’t need to invest in an outdoor ice tub or go on a Baltic retreat; this is Wim Hof for normal flawed people like me – and therein lies Mosley’s USP.
