    The new year hasn’t started well for me. In fact, if a cloaked Claudia Winkleman were to appear from behind a tree clutching a scroll to tell me I’ve been murdered, I really wouldn’t be surprised. It’s been such a bad start to the year, I keep expecting the car doors to fall off and a man in a curly wig and clown shoes to run over and pour custard down my trousers. January’s not been great.

    Ah, January, is the time when we all make shallow promises to ourselves about what we’re going to change in the next 12 months. The older I get the less inclined I am to set out wanting to change, and more inclined to be grateful for what I have. I have, however, spent some time in the last couple of weeks looking back over the last year and reliving the highs and the lows.

Can it really be six weeks since I was writing about going back to school? As a former teacher, I always appreciated these short breaks as a reset, marking the halfway point in the school year.
