    Insurer and managing general agent leaders have committed to help brokers deal with the impact of Applied Systems cutting Epic from the UK market. Insurance Age revealed Epic’s exit last week, a decision defined as a “sad day” for brokers and Applied staff by competitor software houses.     ERS has promoted Annie Ward to head of bespoke personal lines and agriculture from being product manager for bespoke personal lines. Ward, pictured, joined the specialist motor insurer in 2014 as a senior underwriter having started her insurance career at Sabre. She became portfolio underwriting manager in 2015, product manager in 2017 and Prestige product manager in 2018.

    Aviva’s latest Broker Barometer has revealed 68% of brokers believe clients may be underinsured which while still high has eased slightly. A year ago 73% of brokers were concerned that some of their clients may be underinsured. The insurer polled 251 brokers in March. Respondents stated that just over a quarter of businesses (28%) regularly use a survey to arrive at their valuation. Of the remaining businesses, 59% ‘sometimes’ use a survey, with one in eight (12%) rarely or never using a survey.

    Applied Systems pulling its Epic offering from the UK underlines how competitive the market is but is sad news for brokers and staff, according to experts. “It is a sad day for the people involved, a sad day for the brokers involved and a sad day overall for the market,” Andy Fairchild, CEO of M&A at Idex Consulting said after Insurance Age revealed the news of the withdrawal. Fairchild was the predecessor of Applied Systems Europe CEO Tom Needs.
