    During the construction of Rettner Hall in 2013, contractors unearthed unexplained layers of foundation beneath the ground. Nothing in their existing building plans could explain why the foundation existed, or what the scope of it was. To learn more, they approached University Archivist Melissa Mead, who, after spending some time digging through the archives, discovered the architectural drawings from the ’60s for a research center where Rettner now stands.

    Students and local community members gathered across the Department of Public Safety (DPS) on Oct. 25 to protest for an arms embargo in Palestine and Lebanon and call for academic divestment from Israel. The entire rally was on public property. Protestors walked from outside of the DPS building to gather outside of Wallis Hall. “They’re creating things that are directly being used in the illegal occupation of the Apartheid state,” student organizer Sarah Aljitawi said.

    After seven years of fundraising efforts, the Joseph P. Mack Catholic Center will begin construction efforts this month. On Oct. 9, Father Brian C. Cool of the Newman Catholic Community led a virtual Town Hall meeting to provide updates on the project following the final approval to begin construction from September’s Board of Trustees meeting. The new building will be named after alumnus and former Board of Trustees member, Joseph P. Mack ’55, who pledged over $2.5 million to build the center.

    A Latin American, Caribbean, & Latinx Studies (LACX) advising breakfast drop-in was organized Oct. 23 to allow students to learn about the new major and to meet faculty and faculty advisors from the Greene Center. The breakfast was organized in response to a new Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies (LACX) being approved by the faculty council two years after the student petition.
