As learning disabilitiy nursing students, communication stands out as one of the ways that we can address the healthcare barriers, and help to bring some equity to care.

As we head towards the middle of the academic year, this seemed the perfect time for this topic. We all hear about the dreaded ‘second-year blues’, but I have to say from my experience I prefer the phrase ‘second-year slump’. Like every other nursing student, in the second-year blues I was expecting all the feelings of being ‘blue’; a bit of sadness, maybe some apathy or lack of interest. But for me, it was not that; it was more a second-year slump.
