They say you should never meet your heroes, but Michael Parkinson was the exception to that rule. I’ll never forget the morning I walked into the studios at Sky and there he was, laughing and chatting and just being an absolute gentleman. A real-life star in person, but there was no ego and no swagger. How refreshing. I wondered if he would mind me going over to say hello and ask a few questions. He couldn’t have been friendlier. In fact, he made my day. I’ve never forgotten that kindness.
