    Nigerian police are seeking to freeze 601 accounts as part of an investigation into 9,633 erroneous transactions after payment processing platform Flutterwave suffered a breach in 2023, The Africa Report can confirm. As N21.2bn ($21.2m) in unauthorised payments were made by point of sale merchants on 12 and 13 October 2023, Flutterwave asked Wema Bank to place a hold on settlement accounts and reached out to other banks to halt further transactions, according to an internal police memo.
